Purpose of Qualification
The content of this qualification prepares learners who wish to be involved in clearing and forwarding industry. The programme comprises of knowledge, practical and work experience assessment. Successful completion of this qualification will provide the individual with an advantage to gaining employment within shipping and logistics industries. This is a qualification developed to ensure that learners build solid foundation of competency in the shipping and logistics sector. The aim of this qualification is also to provide articulation both horizontal and vertical progression to universities and other higher learning institution’s, shipping and logistics programme.
Entry Requirements
NSC, SC or NC(V) at NQF Level 4 including mathematical literacy
Qualification structure
This qualification is made up of the following compulsory Knowledge and Practical Skill Modules:
Knowledge Modules:
- Freight Forwarding Practice and Procedures Theory, NQF Level 5, Credits 20
- Compliance and Brokerage Theory, NQF Level 5, Credits 12
- Warehouse and Distribution Theory, NQF Level 5, Credits 5
- Environment, Energy Efficiency and Ethics, NQF Level 5, Credits 3
Total number of credits for Knowledge Modules: 40
Practical Skill Modules:
- Plan and co-ordinate freight movement of cargo, NQF Level 5, Credits 10
- Plan and co-ordinate customs clearing, delivery and pickup of cargo, NQF Level 5, Credits 8
- Prepare and process data/ documentation associated with international trade in compliance with applicable and current legislation, NQF Level 5, Credits 8
- Audit commodities against customs and other statutory requirements, NQF Level 5, Credits 10
- Apply rebate, drawback and bond facilities, NQF Level 5, Credits 10
- Prepare documents for receipt, storage and removal of warehoused cargo, NQF Level 5, Credits 5
- Prepare receipts of cargo to be distributed, NQF Level 5, Credits 3
