  • Made in Japan
  • Vintage:  1946 - 1956
  • Details:   This is an adorable compote, also known as a pedestal dish.  Typically used for candy, bon-bons and other sweets as well as dried fruit or nuts.  Today they are multi-purpose and can be used all over the house.  This piece has a gorgeous reticulated border and lots of spray gilding all around.  The pattern is all about roses, there are pink and yellow roses, very feminine, very romantic.  The pedestal is also spray gilded and has pink roses.  This piece still retains a partial foil label which we recognized as UCAGCO.  This particular label was silver foil and red, used between 1946 and 1956, and read:  "UCAGCO Ceramics Japan".   If you're a collector of Ucagco, we hope this piece adds to your collection.  If you're looking for a gift for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day this fits the bill beautifully.  Great as home decor!

UCAGCO was founded in 1850 under the name Abe Mayer & Co, with offices in New Orleans and New York.  They officially took the trademark UCAGCO (which stands for United China and Glass Company) in the 1930’s. Ucagco was primarily a creator and distributor of dinnerware and glassware.  After WWII was over, the company’s agent in Japan (S.A. Stolaroff) signed the very first contract allowing imports from Japan.  In 1956, UCAGCO was sold to Sammons Enterprises.
