Please take into consideration that this item is handmade. Therefore, dimensions & colors may slightly vary from item to item. If the glaze has spots or crystals, their positioning will be different from item to item. This makes each and every piece completely unique :)

This is the smallest of the Dalmatas (see last picture in the gallery for reference).

“Dalmata” is Spanish for “Dalmatian Dogs” – the name Yvonne Rausch adopted for this design because the first glaze used had lots of dots. The body of this item is the same shape as one of the very first pieces Yvonne Rausch threw on the wheel. That original pot is still part of her collection. When learning moldmaking, she decided to create a mold of all the wheel-thrown pieces made at that time – just four or five in total. This one stood out in particular, although the size felt slightly off until a handle was added, which completed the design perfectly.

By coincidence, the fluid capacity is the same as cappuccino cups used in restaurants and cafés. The handle of the Dalmata originated from Yvonne Rausch’s early attempts at creating a perfect circle. The result was a wobbly, imperfect shape that added extra quirky charm to the design.

After the first Dalmata was completed, Yvonne Rausch decided to keep this distinctive, not-so-round handle as a signature feature. She later adapted the silhouette to create smaller versions: the “Dalmata S” and the even smaller “Dalmata XS.”
