• Details:  Such cute paper mache Easter Egg candy box!!  This one is expertly crafted from West Germany, and features two colorful illustrations.  One side features a couple of  rabbits in the garden picking carrots and tomatoes.  The other side shows a rabbit asleep while fishing. The seams are edged in bright green paper, a different image on each half.  Made specifically for the Easter holiday, these typically feature illustrations of spring, florals, rabbits, ducks, or chicks, anything related to spring rebirth and renewal.  Marked: "1984 Midwest Importers of Cannon Falls Inc" on the outside, inside it's marked: "Container Made in Western Germany".  This one is empty, fill it with treats or decorate your home to bring a nostalgic, old world look to your spring and Easter holiday decor.

Midwest Importers was started in 1952 by a Pastor by the name of Ken Althoff in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Ken was diagnosed with MS and forced to give up his ministry, he started a business in his basement importing religious and holiday items to sell at his gift store.  The business grew so much that Ken closed the store in 1964 to focus on the import business. It remained a family business with Ken's daughter and son joining the company until they retired. The 'Importers' part of the company name was dropped in 1994, naming the company 'Midwest of Cannon Falls'. In 1997 Bain Capital made an equity investment in the company. In 1999, Midwest acquired American Specialty Confections Inc., a wholesale distributor of food and candy. Bain Capital restructured the company and eventually it was acquired by Blyth Inc. In 2009, Blyth merged Midwest with CBK Styles, Inc., a wholesaler of home and garden decor, gifts and accessories, to form Midwest-CBK, that was the end of the Midwest Importers of Cannon Falls name.  Midwest-CBK had 3 divisions; Seasons of Cannon Falls, Colonial Candle and CBK Styles. Midwest Gifts is still being used, now owned by Ganz.
