Joe Namath was born on May 31, 1943.  He is an American football player, quarterback.  He played for the New York Jets for most of his career.  Joe played and won in Super Bowl III in 1969 and became the first player to throw more than 4,000 yards.  He had a great football career and was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.  But he is also known for his behavior both on and off the field, his fashion sense, lighthearted personality, and stature as a sex symbol.  He even became an actor and had his own show "The Joe Namath Show" in 1969 and appeared in several movies and as a guest star in several tv shows.  He was also a sports broadcaster.  He earned the nickname "Broadway Joe" in 1965 after his appearance on the cover of the July Sports Illustrated magazine.  He was also called "Joe Willie Namath" primarily by sportscaster Howard Cosell.  Today Joe Namath is still serving as an unofficial spokesman and goodwill ambassador for the Jets.
